Meet the artists at this May 15th gallery show and hear the stories behind their exhibit. Plus, this is a great opportunity to mingle with other local art enthusiasts, make new friends, and enjoy a wine/beer cash bar that benefits our ArtReach programs. Mark your calendar and invite a friend! New exhibits unveiled will include:

BOLD, BLACK, & BEAUTIFUL

Through vibrant colors, patterns, and textures, Justice Dwight and Lizzie Brown create portraits exploring the essence, identity, and intimacy of African American men, women, and children.

STORIES LAYERED AND STITCHED

Virginia McConnell’s portraits are inspired by her fascination with people in her community and the stories they carry with them. Collaged from hundreds of pieces of fabric, then assembled in the form of quilts, each piece tells a story!

LITTLE WORLDS

Laura Thompson extracts images from vintage magazines, plucking objects out of the contrived scenes of a bygone era and dropping them into other-worldly settings. Her work explores themes such as our relationships with others, animals, the planet, social justice issues, inclusion, and feminism.

MAKING FRIENDS

Virginia McConnell’s sculptures of children began as a reaction to society’s increasingly exaggerated polarization and intolerance. Searching for a source of agreement across diverse perspectives, she was drawn to the universality of children at play.

For the past five decades, Grammy-winning BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet has been making some of the most potent and popular Cajun music on the planet. Born out of the rich Acadian ancestry of its members, and created and driven by bandleader Michael Doucet’s internationally renowned fiddle playing and soulful vocals, BeauSoleil is notorious for bringing even the most staid audience to its feet. BeauSoleil’s distinctive sound derives from the distilled spirits of New Orleans jazz, blues, rock, folk, swamp pop, Zydeco, country and bluegrass, captivating listeners from the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans to Carnegie Hall, then all the way across the pond to Richard Thompson’s Meltdown Festival in England. Don’t miss BeauSoleil’s return to The Cultural Arts Center as part of their 50th anniversary tour. - Heritage Show
