An event that encourages audience members to open their hearts and minds to the beauty of the arts - specifically music, dance, visual art and the spoken word. This special event will include scripted segments with narration leading into well-crafted arrangements of John Denver compositions. The songs will be interpreted by veteran Richmond musicians with a backdrop of changing graphic images to reinforce the message. Benefits Opening Minds Through Art (OMA). When Craig Evans and Brad Tucker started singing together in the early 1980’s, neither could have guessed how long that partnership would last. 2018 began their 3rd decade as The Taters, with 8 CDs of original music available – including the recent “DON’T SCREAM” and “SHINY & BRITE” Halloween and Christmas albums. They continue to mine their collective experience to craft songs with unforgettable hooks and pop melodies and to add classic tunes to their repertoire which reflects a wide range of interests and influences. Layers of acoustic and electric guitars mix with 3 and 4 part harmonies to give each song its own personality; while the lead vocals and songwriting pull it all together in a very satisfying way that draws audiences out of their seats and onto the dancefloor! If Jerry Garcia’s music could be blended with rock, jazz and other American genres, what would that sound like? Find out at this special one-night-only concert event featuring Deadgrass! Deadgrass, described as “a string band adventure through Jerry Garcia’s musical world,” will perform on November 8th at 7pm. “We interpret Jerry’s catalogue and make it our own,” said Matt Turk, co-founder of Deadgrass. “We’re not a tribute band. Bobby BlackHat, Virginia’s Blues Ambassador, award winning recording artist, harmonica player, vocalist, songwriter, comedian, producer has been playing harmonica for over 46 years. He is a retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander with 27 years of distinguished service which included serving as Military Aide to the President and being awarded the Coast Guard Medal for Heroism. He has opened for music legends: B.B King, Taj Mahal, Delbert McClinton, Patti Labelle, Ramsey Lewis, and Maze. He has also performed with Eddie Shaw, Kenny Neal, Ruthie Foster, Tas Cru, Jason Ricci, Slam Allen, Mick Kolassa, Fernando Jones, Memphis Gold, and Lurrie Bell. BlackHat is a judge for the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. In 2017, Bobby won the USAA/We Are The Mighty Mission: Music nationwide competition. In 2016, the Bobby BlackHat Band advanced to the finals of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. Bobby has won two Blewzzy Awards for "Song of the Year" (I Hear Mama's Voice, 2012 and Please Mr. BlackHat, 2015). Henrico Theatre Company is thrilled to pay tribute to an American icon, Burt Bacharach. Bacharach was an American composer, songwriter, record producer and pianist who is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures of 20th century popular music. Starting in the 1950’s he composed hundreds of pop songs, many in collaboration with lyricist Hal David. From 1961-1972 most of Bacharach and David’s songs were written specifically for and performed by Dionne Warwick. Come out and join HTC’s singing and dancing cast while you reminisce to many of his hits including “This Guy’s in Love with You,” “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head,” “Walk On By” and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” – and more!

Shannon Gibson Brown is back singing Patsy Cline’s songs as only she can! She has appeared with Henrico Theatre Company in “Always, Patsy Cline,” “A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline,” “The Drowsy Chaperone,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and many more shows. The Cultural Arts Center proudly presents Sara’s Sensorium, a multi-sensory walk-through exhibit by Sara O’Connor’s Fine Art, a deliciously immersive experience that allows you to touch, taste, hear, smell, and see paintings like never before!
“My mantra is the dot, a single point of clarity, through which I channel my imagination,” she says. “I ceaselessly return to this point of focus until I have reached a calm, yet inviting, mindfulness. My dots almost represent a seed of possibility, from which my flowers bloom.”
With this installation, Sara seeks to elevate texture, color, and form by inviting guests to release their inner child and enjoy art like never before by allowing attendees to create artwork, listen to originally designed songs, and taste and smell flavors Sara has paired with the exhibited artwork.
Sara O’Connor is a traveling artist who has exhibited her work in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. Some of Sara’s collection is permanently on display and available for purchase at Pop of Confetti, an artisan market in Carytown, Richmond. Formed by Aaron Collis and Mark Manning, Rum Ragged takes a bold approach to the distinct folk music of their home, the Eastern Canadian island of Newfoundland. Boasting bouzouki, fiddle, bodhran, banjo, guitar and button accordion, these new champions of East Coast music enliven and enlighten audiences with both songs and tune sets which they deliver with an honest swagger that is far beyond their years.
