They continue to mine their collective experience to craft songs with unforgettable hooks and pop melodies and to add classic tunes to their repertoire that reflect a wide range of interests and influences. Gather your friends and join us outside for a fun afternoon of jazz with Cloud 9! Cloud 9 was formed over 12 years ago and primarily performs a fusion of R&B and jazz. The improvisational skills of the group make every musical performance unique with the goal of bringing the audience to the euphoric state of being on Cloud 9! Guten Tag! Celebrate the magic of Oktoberfest with The Sauerkrauts at this outdoor concert featuring genuine Bavarian music and authentic costumes. Initially formed in 1977 entirely of members of the ACCA Temple “Million Dollar” Band, The Sauerkrauts are now a group of volunteer musicians donating their time and talents to support the Shriners mission - where children are treated for orthopedic and burn conditions with no financial responsibility to the family. They have performed at the Richmond Oktoberfest for many years and perform annually for Capital Ale House, the Virginia Masonic Home and many other extended-care facilities around the area. Don’t miss their Cultural Arts Center debut and a fun afternoon of German Oompah music and dance. This outdoor concert will be general admission with snacks & wine/beer/beverages for sale. Catch acclaimed American Western swing trio, Hot Club of Cowtown, during their 25th Anniversary World Tour - October 15th at The Cultural Arts Center! The band's name comes from two sources: "Hot Club" from the hot jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli's Quintette du Hot Club de France, and "Cowtown" from the western influence of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys and other early Western swing combos, as well as the band's love of fiddle tunes, hoedowns, and songs of the American west.

Gospel and symphony fans unite! Join us this year as The Cultural Arts Center pairs the Tribute Gospel Ensemble and the Richmond Symphony on the Sara Belle November Stage in this popular, annual concert series. The Tribute Gospel Ensemble is a Richmond based Gospel group out of First African Baptist Church, one of the oldest black churches in the region celebrating its 242nd anniversary in 2022. This choir was formed over 20 years ago by its dynamic music director, Ms. Michelle Lightfoot. Tribute has opened for such talents as: Richard Smallwood; Smokie Norful, and Darryl Coley. They have also been fortunate to share stages with the likes of Maurette Brown Clark, Sunday Best contestant Crystal Aikin and others. This group has successfully shared their songs of praise across the Eastern region and continue to celebrate all new opportunities and venues.

Bobby BlackHat, Virginia’s Blues Ambassador, award winning recording artist, harmonica player, vocalist, songwriter, comedian, producer has been playing harmonica for over 46 years. He is a retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander with 27 years of distinguished service which included serving as Military Aide to the President and being awarded the Coast Guard Medal for Heroism. He has opened for music legends: B.B King, Taj Mahal, Delbert McClinton, Patti Labelle, Ramsey Lewis, and Maze. He has also performed with Eddie Shaw, Kenny Neal, Ruthie Foster, Tas Cru, Jason Ricci, Slam Allen, Mick Kolassa, Fernando Jones, Memphis Gold, and Lurrie Bell. BlackHat is a judge for the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. In 2017, Bobby won the USAA/We Are The Mighty Mission: Music nationwide competition. In 2016, the Bobby BlackHat Band advanced to the finals of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. Bobby has won two Blewzzy Awards for "Song of the Year" (I Hear Mama's Voice, 2012 and Please Mr. BlackHat, 2015). Henrico Theatre Company is thrilled to pay tribute to an American icon, Burt Bacharach. Bacharach was an American composer, songwriter, record producer and pianist who is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures of 20th century popular music. Starting in the 1950’s he composed hundreds of pop songs, many in collaboration with lyricist Hal David. From 1961-1972 most of Bacharach and David’s songs were written specifically for and performed by Dionne Warwick. Come out and join HTC’s singing and dancing cast while you reminisce to many of his hits including “This Guy’s in Love with You,” “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head,” “Walk On By” and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” – and more!

The Cultural Arts Center proudly presents Sara’s Sensorium, a multi-sensory walk-through exhibit by Sara O’Connor’s Fine Art, a deliciously immersive experience that allows you to touch, taste, hear, smell, and see paintings like never before!
“My mantra is the dot, a single point of clarity, through which I channel my imagination,” she says. “I ceaselessly return to this point of focus until I have reached a calm, yet inviting, mindfulness. My dots almost represent a seed of possibility, from which my flowers bloom.”
With this installation, Sara seeks to elevate texture, color, and form by inviting guests to release their inner child and enjoy art like never before by allowing attendees to create artwork, listen to originally designed songs, and taste and smell flavors Sara has paired with the exhibited artwork.
Sara O’Connor is a traveling artist who has exhibited her work in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. Some of Sara’s collection is permanently on display and available for purchase at Pop of Confetti, an artisan market in Carytown, Richmond. All exhibits are family-friendly, so feel free to bring the kids for a fun art outing! Many of the artists will be at this event, so you can meet and mingle with them! Plus, enjoy a wine & beer cash bar that helps The Center’s ArtReach programs. New exhibits revealed will include:
“A Voice in Color” - Ramel Jasir is inspired by Ndebele, Aboriginal, and Taino art. Painting detailed patterns that evoke spiritual calligraphy, his works are uniquely African American while setting a trend for diversification in cultural form.
“Immagine’ The Possibilities” - Immagine’ is an artist collective whose artists range in age from 9-90. Each artist brings their own unique perspective through fantasy paintings, landscape photography, imaginative drawings, RVA themed art, and much more.
“People in Place” - The Camera Club of Richmond explores the relationships of human subjects within a particular place. Images include travel photos, environmental portraiture, and street scenes that capture the “decisive moment.”
“Honeysuckle Baskets” - Anne Scarpa McCauley’s baskets, made from wild honeysuckle, are uniquely woven from a pattern she created at the age of 12 while tending her family’s herd of dairy goats. Kept completely natural, her baskets are lightweight, strong, and durable enough for use.
