SEASON PREMIERE! The Taters will kick off the first half of our Center Season with a new production and their signature eclectic mix of roots rock, pop, country, skiffle & Americana. When Craig Evans and Brad Tucker started singing together in the early 1980’s, neither could have guessed how long that partnership would last. 2018 began their 3rd decade as The Taters, with 8 CDs of original music available – including the recent “DON’T SCREAM”, and “SHINY & BRITE”, Halloween and Christmas albums. They continue to mine their collective experience to craft songs with unforgettable hooks and pop melodies and to add classic tunes to their repertoire that reflect a wide range of interests and influences. Layers of acoustic and electric guitars mix with 3 and 4 part harmonies to give each song its own personality while the lead vocals and songwriting pull it all together in a very satisfying way that draws audiences out of their seats to dance! SARA'S SENSORIUM - SPECIAL EXHIBIT AND EVENT!

6:00 pm

The Cultural Arts Center proudly presents Sara’s Sensorium, a multi-sensory walk-through exhibit by Sara O’Connor’s Fine Art, a deliciously immersive experience that allows you to touch, taste, hear, smell, and see paintings like never before!

3D sculpted painting artist Sara O’Connor announces a multi-sensory art exhibit entitled “Sara’s Sensorium.” The immersive art event will be held at The Cultural Arts Center - September 14th, 6-9PM.

The free and open to all ages event will offer a highly immersive experience that will allow guests to touch, taste, hear, smell, and see paintings like never before. The installation features a variety of Sara’s styles including: Floralism, Heavy Textured Pointillism, Bitty Bites, and Strips. All of these highlight her interest in exploring and expressing her love of color, texture, curiosity, and growth.

“My mantra is the dot, a single point of clarity, through which I channel my imagination,” she says. “I ceaselessly return to this point of focus until I have reached a calm, yet inviting, mindfulness. My dots almost represent a seed of possibility, from which my flowers bloom.”

With this installation, Sara seeks to elevate texture, color, and form by inviting guests to release their inner child and enjoy art like never before by allowing attendees to create artwork, listen to originally designed songs, and taste and smell flavors Sara has paired with the exhibited artwork.

Sara O’Connor is a traveling artist who has exhibited her work in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. Some of Sara’s collection is permanently on display and available for purchase at Pop of Confetti, an artisan market in Carytown, Richmond. She works regularly to create custom commissions for emerging and established collectors at home and abroad. Learn more about Sara O’Connor on her website: www.saraoconnorfineart.com.

Sara’s Sensorium will be held one night only on Wednesday, September 14th from 6:00-9:00 PM in the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen’s Cardinal Ballroom. Mark your calendar to attend this special free event!

Western Swing + Hot Jazz! A night of incredible live music!

Catch acclaimed American Western swing trio, Hot Club of Cowtown, during their 25th Anniversary World Tour - October 15th at The Cultural Arts Center! The band's name comes from two sources: "Hot Club" from the hot jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli's Quintette du Hot Club de France, and "Cowtown" from the western influence of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys and other early Western swing combos, as well as the band's love of fiddle tunes, hoedowns, and songs of the American west.

Since its beginnings, the Hot Club of Cowtown’s star has continued to rise as its reputation for jaw-dropping virtuosity and unforgettable live shows has become the band’s global brand. Praised for their down-home melodies and exuberant improvisation, the Hot Club has always woven a combination of seemingly disparate styles together to its own magical effect, setting up camp “at that crossroads where country meets jazz and chases the blues away.” We hope you'll join us at their first VA stop on their world tour!

This amazing band, anchored by brothers Billy, Matthew and Ryan McGuigan, perform as themselves and leave the song choices completely in the hands of the audience! As an added treat, the reasons that the audience members chose those songs make up the narrative of the evening. Every show is different, every show is interactive, and every show proves that The Beatles’ music truly is the soundtrack to our lives.
