Playing with Fire!

Jane Hendley

Raku is an ancient Japanese firing method which provides an exciting opportunity to watch what happens in a kiln as pieces of pottery are being fired. As the glaze begins to melt in the kiln, students take red hot vessels out using tongs and special gloves, smother them in sawdust and plunge them into water. The results are spectacular! Bisqued pottery pieces will be provided so everyone will bring home their own unique piece of art. Fun family event (kids will love it!) or simply the opportunity to play with fire. Closed toe shoes and long pants recommended.
