Gallery - Gumenick

Where I've Been, Where I'm Going
May 16-July 14, 2013
Opening reception: Thursday, May 16, 7-9pm
Artist: Sondra N. Arkin
In the past decade, Sondra's work has focused on broad geometrics in saturated color fields. Recently, she has turned to more minimal and translucent wax/shellac/ink paintings that resemble drawings. Their energy implies a larger whole than the fragment presented.
While her earlier work put the viewer on one side of the picture plane, this new work destabilizes that relationship. Now, the viewer enters a nest of lines as if they were walking through a dimensional space, relating closely to recently completed interlocking wire sculptures. Finding the way back to color, without making the work about color, is the goal of this exhibition.
Admission: Free
Gallery hours: Mon-Thur, 9am-9pm; Fri, 9am-5pm. Also open during special events and performances.
Location: Gumenick Family Gallery
